La Bibe est certainement la variété d'araignée la plus spectaculaire de la Réunion. Certains sentiers de randonnée sont recouvert de tunnels formés par les toiles de cette araignée.
Magnifique araignée arborant des couleurs intenses indiquant le "danger" qu'elle représente à d'éventuels prédateurs, elle se reconnait immédiatement : de très longues pates noires et oranges (plus rarement rouges), un gros corps glabre (parfois taché d'orange), une tête munies d'énormes crocs.
Les toiles tissées par les bibes sont si coriaces que par le passé les toiles furent tissées pour en faire des vétements (à Madagascar). Certaines études menées dernièrement envisagent de réaliser des gilets pare-balles avec ce fil.
En théorie elles ne piquent pas l'homme. Toutefois, celà peut arriver dans certains cas très rares, la piqure est alors vive et nécrosante.
